Town of Bayview History Committee (BHC)
BHC is a sub-committee of the Washburn Heritage Association
The BHC was established in 2018 by a group of individuals dedicated to preserving the history of the Town of Bayview. The Town of Bayview was formally incorporated in 1913 and comprises an area of 56.1 square miles. Bayview is located between Washburn and Bayfield. When driving north on Hwy 13, its southern boundary is Gary Road and its northern boundary is Old Kennedy Road. The eastern boundary is the shore of Lake Superior and the western boundary is about four miles west of Church Corner Road at County Road C.

The Bayview History Committee exists to collect and preserve the history of the Town of Bayview and to make it available to residents and the general public.

How we raised project funds
- Letters describing the efforts being made to save the Houghton Depot were mailed to all Bayview residents.
- In July of 2019, for Washburn’s Brownstone Days, the BHC displayed posters explaining the project along with a model train track showing the location of the depot in the 1880’s.
- Grant from the Apostle Islands Historical Preservation Conservancy

- A presentation on Feb 25, 2020 by Paul Johnson at the Tony Woiak History Festival entitled: “ The Three Lives of Houghton Depot”
- Articles have appeared in The Junction and the Ashland Daily Press. WDIO, KBJR6 and Live Local 3 Duluth have aired several reports live and on-line.
As of May 2020 sufficient funds have been raised to allow us to move the depot and restore the outside. We continue to seek financial support for the restoration of the inside of the depot to allow us to do educational programs.
