Facade Grants
About the Facade Grant
The facade grants support WHA's mission and are focused on improving the character of the community, maintaining the integrity of buildings, and preserving structures. Like the Scouts who are to "leave it better than they found it." The Facade Committee will be rewarding those endeavors within the community and drawing attention to what is possible when civic pride is in play.
Who is eligible?
Facade Improvement Awards are given to commercial businesses in Washburn that have shown exceptional sensitivity to preserving or enhancing historic Washburn buildings.
How to Apply
The facade grants are periodically awarded based on available funds. A call for applications will be announced through the website and social media posts. The application is below.

- Bayfield County Courthouse Exterior renovations to the brownstone of this National Register of Historic Places in America site.
- Karlyn's Gallery Ongoing, thoughtful improvements to their building and to the quality goods and services they offer.
- Washburn Family Dentistry Replication of missing exterior trim to an historic brownstone building.
- Mary & Jim Nowakowski Helped save the historic DuPont Civic Center building from demolition and exterior renovation of the building.
- North Coast Coffee Exterior renovations that include murals by a local artist.
- Pathways, Inc. Exterior painting of the historic Opera House building.
- Joanne & Marty Katzmarek - Exterior renovations to historic bungalow in a residential neighborhood.
